 Weaving of San Juan Comalapa,Guatemala

The wall hangings below are for sale and all of them were handwoven on the back-strap loom by Mayan women from the village of San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala. They are part of a vintage collection that I brought back with me to the US in the mid 1970’s after living and studying weaving with an indigenous family there. The actual loom, made with wooden sticks and poles, is left in the hanging which means that the weaver could actually pick it up and continue weaving if she wanted to. Below is a video demonstration of back strap loom weaving in Guatemala that I found on youtube and at the bottom of the video you’ll see the authentic, colorful handwoven wall hangings that are available for purchase. The large ones are $25.00 each & the smaller ones are $15.00 each plus shipping & handling.
